So, if a gathering of believers (Church) is going to embrace their role as a seek and rescue mission, what does that look like? What values should they pursue?
I have been looking at a lot of churches lately and looking online for value statements that i found particularly compelling. These are value statements mind you, not mission or vision statements. Mission statements explain a church's reason for existence, and should not differ greatly between churches. A Vision statement communicates the direction that We are all called to the mission that Christ has commissioned and commanded us to in the Great Commission and Greatest Commandments. These value statements on the other hand serve to define the motives, attitudes, and ethos that flow from the vision and mission statements. They are more of the "how" we live out the call of God as a gathering of believers.
I have fallen in love with some simple vision statements that I originally found, of all places, on Pintrest. Yes, I am on Pintrest and i am not ashamed. There is some great stuff shared there! I saw some of these statements painted on the wall of a church in one pin. I added some flavor of my own and here are some great values that churches can communicate to their congregation so that they can live them out in the world.
In conclusion... again... Check out the values stated at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC. The Pastor Tim Keller wrote a very good book on understanding how we can live out the mission. It is called Center Church. Check it out! Here is the link for their MVV .
God bless you as you follow hard after Him,
Jim

- Found people find people
- Saved people serve people
- Forgiven people forgive people
- Growing people change
- You can’t do life alone
- You can’t out give God
- The Best is yet to come
