However, now, the new ministry requirements and arenas that are developing since the information age began are increasingly technical and technology driven. We are expected to: blog (thus, what you are reading now), design web pages with both audio and video content which often times we must produce and learn how to post/ cast, be a master of social media with witty and deep tweets/ personal and caring messages for the masses as well as individuals without offending people, Create interesting sermons slides, be aware of the ever changing definition of "cultural relevance" which probably means we know what is happening in media, and be good writers for print media as well (and hopefully be published somehow).
All of those things above I have to admit, I do enjoy creating, but there is an ever increasing number of outlets and directions that we spread ourselves. It is not surprising that many pastors are burning out! Just the base responsibilities alone are enough to tax even a very hearty soul.
I say all of this as I am in my search process and presently rewriting/ designing my resume. It's a lot of work and feels like a full time position just trying to find a position. I'm not complaining. Just stating the fact that things have changed and that, despite all of this, I love serving God as a pastor of a local church. I love preaching the Gospel week in and week out. I live for the moments of awakening and dedication to the Lord and his amazing Grace. I think we need to look at all of our challenges as possibilities for growth, for adventure. I thank God for how he has wired me to learn and for the outlets we have today for sharing the Gospel. I appreciate any and all prayers as I take on these responsibilities and requirements with the strength that God alone gives. God bless you and make His face shine on you.
